Lesson Learned...Don't put your toddler and your car keys in the car together without buckling them in!

Yes, last night I did this. I was leaving a birthday party with Madelyn and when we got to the car I put her in her carseat without buckling her in while I loaded up the car, which meant throwing my bag and my keys on the passenger seat in the front like I always do. I began talking to a friend, watching Madelyn through the window climb out of her seat and into the front passenger seat, then to the driver's seat. She then began playing with all the buttons, which included the automatic lock button. I went to get in to put her back in her seat and leave when I was finished talking and realized she had locked herself in and there sat the keys on the seat. My friend and I were trying to get her to unlock the door, but she couldn't figure out how to push the button up to unlock it, only down, which is lock. After 10 minutes of panicking, we called our friend's husband out to help...I didn't dare to call Ty and tell him what my irresponsible self had done. The friend came out with a hanger, and then it dawned on me that my back window was broken and could be slid up and down from the outside, so I slid the window down and rescued the keys and my carefree toddler who was clueless about what was going on. I have to admit, I was a little ashamed and embarrassed about my irresponsible behavior. So in conclusion, don't put your toddler and your car keys in the car together without buckling them in!

So scary! I am always so nervous about stuff like that! At least now you'll never do that again!

This sounds like one of those things that every parent has to experience at one point or another. I don't know why, but I have had so many friends with this problem lately.

Been there done that. Bridger however was buckled in and somehow the truck door got shut with the keys inside. We kept trying to get bridger to reach over and push the unlock button to no avail. After 2 neighbors plus Zac and myself, a crowbar and a wire hanger, I finally gave up and called the police. Bridger was hysterical, I was hysterical. Finally 1/2 hour later the cop got the door open with some fancy device and by that time Bridger had cried himself to sleep. Yes, we were parked in our driveway. We only had one set of keys at the time. In fact, we may still only have one set of keys. I'm going to make a copy right now!

Now that is funny! I know at the time it was not and I would have reacted the same way. But HELLO what a great story to tell Maddy when she is older! You are a great Mom!!!!

That was crazy! The dumb thing was that you had just told me that your back window didn't work. To bad it took us that long to remember that. I'm just glad Maddy wasn't scared or crying. We can laugh now. My mom locked me in her car when I was an infant in a carseat on a very hot summer's day at my grandma's house. To make matters worse I had pulled a blanket over my head. That was my mom's breaking point, she broke the window to get me out.:)

I am so glad it worked out not too bad! From your other post, you are so skinny, and I would love to do a triathlon with you!! I know a good beginner one, so maybe after the baby we could get back in shape together.
